FAQS

Q. Are all ArmorGroup staff full time employees or are they self employed?

ArmorGroup does not use sub-contractors except where those persons already have other employers, such as a small number of our training instructors.

ArmorGroup’s offshore Human Resource management is subcontracted to its stand-alone subsidiary, ArmorGroup Services (Jersey) Limited (AGS(J)L).

AGS(J)L’s employees receive a Service Agreement (contract)which offers an overall package, such as regular pay, full and reliable insurance and an industry-leading welfare programme, which is comfortably ahead of those offered to the majority of contractors. Employees are therefore not self employed and are the responsibility of ArmorGroup companies for the duration of employment.

A more detailed explanation of AGSJL’s terms and conditions will be made available to successful applicants during the employment process.

Q. If I am serving in the UK Armed Forces, what resettlement courses are relevant to the security industry and ArmorGroup in particular?

There are now a number of relevant courses available to those personnel leaving all Armed Forces and a variety of courses relevant to this industry and ArmorGroup, including Close Protection, Security Risk Management and First Aid. Research is essential in regards to course content, relevance to your chosen career and quality of instruction.

Should you choose to attend a Close Protection course then it is advisable to ensure the course provider is accredited to City & Guilds, Edexcel or a recognised body to ensure that you qualify for a Security Industry Authority (SIA) license. For further information on the SIA license and Close Protection Courses which qualify finishers for a SIA license visit www.the-sia.org.uk.

Q. Do I require a Security Industry Authority (SIA) license to work at ArmorGroup?

The introduction of the SIA license for close protection in September 2005 directs that it is mandatory for any security operator to have an appropriate SIA license in order work legally in the security industry within the UK. Whilst at this stage a license is not essential for working in countries outside of the UK, ArmorGroup considers it an advantage. Therefore, those applicants with a SIA license, or those who are in the process of obtaining their license, will be priority candidates.

For further information on the SIA license and Close Protection Courses which qualify finishers for a SIA license visit www.the-sia.org.uk.

Q. Does ArmorGroup insist on any language skills?
ArmorGroup expects every employee to have a good conversational level of English as that is the common language in use with the majority of our employees and clients.

When operating in a particular country it is desirable, although not essential, to be conversant in the local language although currently this is not a requirement for employment in Iraq and Afghanistan.

When a language is a requirement a candidate is expected to have a good conversational and written standard.
Q. What specific experience do I need to work for ArmorGroup?
The experience required depends on the client requirements and at times can be very specific.

For roles throughout the Middle East and in Afghanistan, demonstrable military operational experience is required due to the level of risk and the company’s standard of ‘duty of care’ towards its employees and clients.

For all regions, relevant experience is essential and may either be country-specific or there be evidence within a candidate’s experience to indicate suitability for and capability with the region or operational environment.
Q. What references do I need?
ArmorGroup prides itself on the quality and experience of its employees and so has a rigorous vetting process. Applicants with the specific experience, as outlined above, will require the following references:

Former military applicants will need two references from a Warrant Officer or more senior rank.

You will also need to provide sight of your Discharge papers and Red Book as appropriate.

Former police officers will need two references from the equivalent ranking Supervisor or above.
Q. Do you provide adequate insurance for your employees?
ArmorGroup takes pride in its duty of care to its employees. All ArmorGroup employees are insured throughout their period of employment, whether at work or on leave. The insurance policy covers a variety of eventualities including death, accident and injury. Insurance details are covered during the induction process.
Q. Where do you operate?

ArmorGroup has operated in over 50 countries over the last 12 months and has 38 country offices worldwide, as detailed on the website.

Q. What type of package do you offer?
Specific packages will be discussed at the offer stage and will vary depending on location and contract/project. The overall package for those working outside of the UK is appropriate for the environment within which they are operating (based on risk and discomfort). The package includes:

* Monthly salary, covering work and leave;
* Work rotation - dependent upon contract;
* Insurance, whether at work or on leave, covering: death; accident and injury; medical expenses; and repatriation;
* Travel paid to/from place of residence;
* Personal protective equipment (as required);
* Accommodation on task; and
* Additional equipment (as required).

Additionally some roles qualify for cost of living differentials.
Q. What is your recruitment process?

On successful submittal of CV, an applicant will be invited to attend a Briefing Day. This will normally be held at one of our training establishments near Hereford and will comprise of the following:

* Full ArmorGroup briefing including history, geographical operating regions, skills and experience required;

* An update on current recruitment requirements as appropriate; and

* The insurances provided to successful applicants.

An interview will then take place with a member of the ArmorGroup HR team.

On successful completion of the interview ArmorGroup will seek references.

Subject to good references and role availability, a candidate will then be offered employment. The time between offer of employment and actual departure will be in accordance with the particular project and its requirement.

All employees will be required to take a pre-deployment medical examination which will be the employees responsibility to arrange and pay for.

Q. What training do you provide?
All induction training is completed “in-theatre” and will be relevant to the project and the environment. Training will continue throughout employment.
Q. Do you accept applications from non military personnel?
The majority of ArmorGroup employees working outside of the UK have a forces or police background, due to the environments within which the company operates and in accordance with our duty of care policy.

Although there are some roles which do not require a forces or police background these are limited.
