Background

A major oil services support company based in Nigeria identified the need to train its pool of local drivers in defensive and specialist driving techniques.

ArmorGroup, which was already established as the company’s security management provider, recommended that a qualified driving instructor from ArmorGroup International’s Training school, based at Pershore in the UK, deploy at the earliest opportunity to conduct an intensive defensive driver training package.

ArmorGroup International Training developed a bespoke defensive driver training package, tailored to the specific environment whilst ensuring that the specific client’s needs were met. The course was designed to develop the students’ core skills, and further educate them in the principles of advanced evasive and defensive techniques, such as:

• Effective threshold braking
• Use of vision to anticipate and avoid accidents
• Emergency braking
• Vehicle control at high speeds
• Off-road recoveries
• Instinctive measures to highway emergencies, in wet and dry road conditions.

ArmorGroup International Training deployed an experienced senior driving instructor to Nigeria who conducted a series of intensive training packages over a three week period.

Results

Since the AGIT course was completed, the client’s local drivers have since displayed a marked improvement in performance in their all round awareness, basic driving skills and techniques. The client’s international employees have registered this improved performance and now share a greater degree of confidence in their local drivers’ capabilities.

ArmorGroup continues to work with the client to maintain and improve performance through a structured programme of continuation and refresher training.
