Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)© and pre-deployment training

Designed to give travellers and employees the confidence to operate in hostile or difficult environments, these courses teach students to analyse the threat, recognise attacks and give them an instinctive basis for defensive action should an incident occur.

The courses incorporate: country briefings; language, cultural, security and situational awareness; weapons awareness; medical response and casualty assessment; contingency planning; defensive navigation and survival; as well as educated response to stress situations such as unexploded ordnance, civil disturbance, riots and kidnap.

We also offer a unique programme focused on the awareness and avoidance of criminal threat based on statistical research and real-world experience. Practical exercises include victim and attacker profiling and signature. The programme is rounded off with non-technique driven “instinctive defensive measures”.

Specialist driving

Students are instructed through classroom exercises which teach effective route analysis skills to practical driving manoeuvres in realistic emergency situations. Lessons include vehicle dynamics, effective threshold braking and the best ways to anticipate and avoid accidents. Practical exercises then cover emergency braking, vehicle control at high speeds, off-road recoveries, as well as instinctive reactive measures to highway emergencies during wet and dry road conditions.

ArmorGroup’s instructors can also equip executives, security personnel and drivers with the skills and preparedness needed to cope with an attack on their vehicle. Our training replicates a range of hazardous conditions, such as narrow and confined roads, street radius turns and speed driving.

ArmorGroup’s specialised driver training also includes detailed hands-on instruction in operating 4-wheel drive vehicles on an all-terrain course under adverse conditions. This off-road training is a must for all specialist vehicle drivers.

Fundamentals of hostage survival

This one day training program is designed to help secure the safety of those who travel or work in a foreign country. The course provides students with an insight into the dynamics involved in a hijacking or kidnapping event, and illustrates how those interacting forces impact the end result. The instruction provides guidance on pre-travel planning, interaction with a hostage-taker and basic survival techniques and tactics from the moment of capture to the final resolution. The scope of training incorporates various scenarios through video vignettes to reinforce key teaching points.

Advanced Surveillance Detection

Recognition and avoidance are the most effective defensive measures. Our proven training methods identify the early steps of an attack or kidnapping, and provide measures to recognise and avoid that attack. In addition, we provide a logical, practical and innovative approach to minimise and counter threats during their earliest stages.

Designed for use by specialist teams protecting facilities and transportation routes, or personnel travelling to hazardous areas, our surveillance detection programmes are key.

Security management

ArmorGroup offers a range of security management courses covering security surveys, risk assessments, evacuation procedures, residential security, security awareness briefings, vehicle security procedure, access control, personnel security, “train the trainer” security management and a security officer’s course.

Crisis management team

Designed to get the most from a management team, the course puts executives into dynamic crisis scenario driven environments covering command and control, emergency response, contingency planning and response to kidnap and ransom situations.

Tactical firearms

ArmorGroup programmes address a range of advanced firearm techniques with a variety of defensive weapons including pistols, shotguns, carbines and rifles, as well as foreign and domestic automatic weapons.

Students learn how to shoot in a variety of realistic tactical situations and environmental conditions. They also learn the physiological impact of a potentially lethal encounter and how to maintain composure in the face of a manifest threat.

Firearms’ training is only conducted when appropriate and where licensed.

Specialist unit

Maritime security

For ships’ personnel and shore-based executives this is a comprehensive array of training, carefully designed around the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. A full range of risk awareness, anti-piracy and hostage incident training is also available and specialist maritime instructors provide scenario and exercise training, both on shore and on board ship.
